$3,133.70 is Fort Frances fundraising goal
July 26 2013, Walmart Canada is gearing up for its annual cross-country campaign to raise crucial funds for Canadian Red Cross disaster response and preparedness activities.  The campaign will run in Walmart stores from August 1 to 25, with an ambitious goal of raising $3 million, of which over $700,000 are matching funds from Walmart
“The funds raised through the Campaign will help ensure that the Canadian Red Cross is ready to respond when disasters strike in our community and communities across the province,” says spokesperson Keri Rafter, Disaster Management Coordinator “We’re very excited to work with Walmart during this campaign and hope that Walmart customers and the Fort Frances community will continue their generous support of the Canadian Red Cross.”
From the floods in Western Canada, the train derailment in Quebec and extreme heat alerts in Southern Ontario to the Northwestern Ontario floods, forest fires and Host Community responses, Red Cross is there in times of need for Canadians whose lives are disrupted due to disaster.”
The following events will be taking place during the campaign:
Event 1            Saturday August 10th 10am-2pm, Walmart Blitz Day! Red Cross Volunteers along with local Fire Services will be at the store, helping bag items and showing their support with other fun activities.

BIZ Kids Coming to Fort Frances !!!

The Northwest Business Centre is pleased to announce BizKids Camps will be running for youth aged 9-12 once again this summer across the Kenora Rainy River District. This year we will be running our eighth BizKid$ Camp in Kenora, our fourth in Dryden, our second in Fort Frances and are very excited to expand the program, partnering with Chukuni Communities Development Corporation to offer our first BizKids Camp in Red Lake.

BizKid$ is a day camp that runs for 5 days. Hosted by the Northwest Business Centre in partnership with the Northern Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative, support from numerous local sponsors in each community plays an important part in delivery of this program.

The camp gives children between the ages of 9 and 12 hands-on experience with planning, organizing and operating a real storefront business. Campers gain a basic overview of entrepreneurship through exciting interactive games and activities, presentations from local entrepreneurs and field trips to local businesses. The young entrepreneurs will dream up a business idea at the beginning of the week and build their business with what they have learned, working towards the grand finale, Market Day.

On Market Day, campers will put what they've learned into action! Campers have the opportunity to set up a business and operate it for 3 hours. Nothing boosts self-esteem and confidence among young people quite like the experience of running their own business for a day and selling the product they have created themselves. says Diane Schwartz-Williams of the Northwest Business Centre. We know from previous campers that this will be an unforgettable experience, and we have seen how it instills entrepreneurial and business values, attitudes and skills that will create opportunities for campers later in life, she added.

Registration is now open for all four camps with special early bird pricing up to 2 weeks before camp dates. There are only 14 spots at each camp and they reach capacity quickly. BizKids Camps take place:

July 8th 12th in Dryden
July 22nd 26th in Red Lake
August 12th 16th in Kenora
August 19th 23rd in Fort Frances

For more information or to register for BizKid$ contact Cameron Chambers, 467-3526, cameron@nwbiz.ca or visit www.nwbiz.ca.

Clover Valley Farmers' Market

Great Season planned for 2013!  We need more Vendors!!!

Clover Valley Farmers' Market saw an upswing in sales and customers in 2012, and this trend appears likely to continue in 2013.  The growing interest in local food bodes well for our Farmers' Market.  As a result, we need more vendors!

The Farmers' Market offers:

  • A great value on Advertising:  The Market uses a variety of advertising to promote its vendors' products: radio, newspaper, billboard, black mobile sign and sandwich boards.  Our presence on our website, Facebook and Twitter continues to expand.  Best of all, if you are a vendor in front of hundreds of people every week at the Market, you create the most effective advertising of all...word of mouth!  You get to interact directly with customers to promote and sell products.
  • The Market Store continues to expand and attract market patrons, so we offer competitively priced at 25%.
  • A comfortable, convenient venue: You are safely out of the hot sun or rain with tavles set up ready to fill with products.
Seasonal Registration Deadline is April 12th:
  • Book a space for the full May through October season!  Vendors can save $144 by paying the seasonal fee.
  • Book a single Saturday. By booking in advance you ensure advertising coverage.
